Nontraditional Multi-Subject Curricula

When I started homeschooling, I wanted something easy, an all-in-one curriculum that I could just turn the pages and do. But every time I looked at one, I wanted to change at least a part of it. I would have changed the activities, the reading list, and much more. So instead of buying a curriculum, I created one from scratch, using my kids’ interests as the focal point, finding resources for a theme or individual subject. We’d visit the library and the bookstore, browse websites, stroll through museum galleries, and then we’d go deeper to have more fun. My kids interviewed experts, invented games, designed creative projects, and more. But this was many years ago, when we didn’t have nearly the number of choices available today.

A free downloadable list of nontraditional, all-subject secular curriculum, designed for homeschoolers, is on the resource page., listed 6th from the top. There is a surprising variety: multi-age; nature-based; literature-based; Afrikan-centered; Waldorf-inspired; live bilingual classes, and more.

Remember that you don’t have to use just one program, or use all that the program contains. You can mix and match, and enrich your learning journey in whatever way works best for you.

Here are a just a few of many interesting choices to consider. Find the entire list here.
